Paul Cartwright, the founder and principal designer of Paul Cartwright Branding, has 30 years of design experience. From teaching, lighting design to visual merchandising and display system design, and ultimately graphic design, he has worked on graphic and three-dimensional design projects for the majority of the UK’s high street retailers.
With a first class BA(Hons) in three-dimensional design from Ravensbourne and years of working in in-house design departments and for retail design consultants, he gained the essential experience required to found Paul Cartwright Branding in 2004.
His early retail design work ranged from visual merchandising systems and display design for Next and River Island to interior branding projects for The Body Shop, Marks and Spencer, USC and The Outdoor Group.
It was during his time working for Debenhams Retail that his flair for packaging graphics became evident – coupling his 3D training with 2D graphic design. He ultimately became Design Manager of the product branding and packaging team – responsible for the creative design and artwork for the high street retailer and its portfolio of over 120 designer and core brands.
This valuable background in high street retail now means that every design project is approached with an inherent consideration of the bigger picture. This ultimately results in a concept that works from the smallest design detail right up to store level which is challenging, appropriate and exciting!
Today, all design project work, client liaison and the day-to-day running of the business are by Paul, who calls on experienced colleagues and freelance artisans with bespoke skills as/when projects require them.
