PROJECT: Whilst working as a designer for Debenhams Retail plc, Paul Cartwright designed the toiletries brand identity of a new range called R&R – a take on the term ‘rest and recuperation ‘.
The range was one of the first high street spa brands and the identity covers a range of pampering soaps, bath and body care and loungewear products.
The brand was divided into three specific areas: Relax, Revive and Renew, covering the key moods and lifestyle associated with each.
Glass bottles featured matt, etched finishes and screen printed graphics, with individual blocks of fragranced soap being wrapped in uncoated waxed paper with hand-applied labels.
Colour-matched bath fizzers were sold in tall cartons with apertures to allow the customer to view the product and experience the fragrance.
A range of towels, again colour-matched to reflect the three areas were produced, the edge detailing stitched with the area name.
R&R was one of Debenhams’ extensive range of core, mid-range and designer brands. Paul Cartwright also had the opportunity to work with Jasper Conran, John Rocha and Kevin McCloud on their respective Designers at Debenhams brands. Details of the Kevin McCloud homewares project are here
