PROJECT: Fun children’s novelty bath bomb branding design project for Bath, Bubble & Beyond!
Having worked with the company on a previous project collaboration, this UK soap and bath fizzer manufacturer contacted us for our help on re-designing their own brand. Their existing range of soap bars and novelty bath-based products was long established, but had no consistency across the range.
PACKAGING GRAPHIC STRUCTURE RE-DESIGN
Through a process of concept development across the most typical packaging formats, a design was chosen that created a graphic structure which would work across all future product development. This new structure can be coloured or overlaid with images and allows the identity to flex to suit individual product ranges and yet maintain an overall uniformity.
The concept (as early visuals above show) consists of a base graphic made up of a ‘horizon’ of waves (tie-ing in with the water/bath time theme) which divides the packs into two areas. This creates areas above and below this ‘horizon’ and offers opportunities for colour, print finishes (such as foiling or varnish) or imagery to suit the characteristics of the range.
A ‘BRAND NEW’ BRAND LOGO
As part of the re-brand a new logo has been created. The new logo is understated and has been considered to work on both grown-up and child-focussed products.
CREATING A WORLD OF CHILDREN’S BATH FIZZERS
With the graphic structure in place, the first bath product range to be updated was the children’s novelty bath bomb (or ‘fizzers’ as they’re known) targeted at boys and girls (or lovers of dinosaurs and unicorns!)
Here the new framework divides the pack into ‘sky’ and ‘land’ zones, creating a world into which the ‘awe-some’ and ‘roar-some’ characters can roam. (The delightful illustrations are by CEL Design.)
A bold, characterful typeface has been chosen to compliment the quirky product title and features consistently across all of the children’s packaging with just changes of colour to suit the nature of the specific children’s bath bomb offer.
The image below, shows the structure working brilliantly across all pack formats of the full range of dinosaur products – creating an overall prehistoric-themed range. The new structure allows for individual tweaks to suit the different shapes/themes of the soaps/fizzers themselves.
As well as the new logo and ‘waves’, a group graphic of ‘bubbles’ has also been designed as part of the graphic assets and these feature on all Bath, Bubble & Beyond packaging regardless of theme.
In some situations the bubbles can be switched for similar groupings of icons. (An example is the robot cogs on the bath fizzer box above.)
FROM THE CLIENT:
It is always a pleasure to work with Paul. He was instrumental in helping us re-brand Bath Bubble & Beyond. He presents sound ideas and makes the time to discuss and listen to your feedback. I have personally learnt a great deal from Paul and would not hesitate in recommending his services. We have continued to work together on a number of projects and the level of energy and enthusiasm is consistent.

The range is available from independent gift retailers and on the brand’s wholesale website.
Other projects that feature a similar approach are the soap packaging graphics we created for Beauty Kitchen. and Natural British soaps.
