PROJECT: Design development project for new range of dry body oil labels for Kaniz.
We were contacted for our help with developing the design of an identity of a new range of premium dry body oils.
ABOUT THE BRAND
The brand, Kaniz is inspired by family connections to the islands of Zanzibar and brings together beauty, health, and wellness traditions from Africa, India, Oman and Persia.
This exotic background has influenced the names of the four initial product variants (Furaha, Mapenzi, Ku Pona and Pumzika) each having a specific meaning in Swahili (Energising, Sensual, Revitalising and Relaxing respectively.)
EXISTING BRAND IDENTITY
A set of four label artworks had already been set up by another designer for the new range, each featuring the logo, a botanical illustration and a range of colours chosen for each product variant. However, the overall dry oil label design lacked impact and sophistication and the artwork was not suitable for print production.
DRY BODY OIL LABEL DEVELOPMENT
Keeping the approved logo and illustrations we looked at a variety of layouts for the wrap label design, each with a slightly different focus and introduced a metallic ink to add a hint of luxury.
PRODUCT VARIANT ICONS
To individualise each of the product varieties further, we considered various concepts, developing a set of emotive icons to act as a standalone symbol on each label and for online brand marketing purposes.
THE FINISHED PRODUCT
The approved layout now features a centralised front panel for the key product information. Two tonal colours create panels either side of this front panel and display the usual directions for use, INCI listing and legal contact details and brand information. The botanical-style illustrations wrap around and bleed onto the front.
Below are the four chosen icons for each of the dry body oil product types.
In tandem to our work, the client worked on developing the bespoke colour for the bottle, ultimately settling on a metallic copper-look, tie-ing in with the sophisticated foiled elements on the label.
