PROJECT: New eczema skincare packaging graphics project for The Beauty of Eczema.
The brand owner’s product development team contacted us for our help on creating the packaging graphics for their first step into a range of skincare products specifically for teens and young women suffering with skin prone to eczema.
EXISTING BRAND IDENTITY
The brand already had a strong visual identity and brand guidelines in place which were working well across their website and social media platforms. Our task was to take this identity and consider its use on physical packaging, maintaining the existing identity, but at the same time creating a framework to handle the specific information required for skincare products.
ECZEMA SKINCARE PACKAGING WITH A DIFFERENCE
Typically, products targeted at problem skin often tend to have a very un-glamorous, more medical, pharmaceutical feel and it was imperative that the design of these products steered away from that genre, and to be desirable and not second rate.
Using the brand’s ‘torn paper edge’ scrapbook detail, the new packaging identity is based on using bands of colour, creating a structure for the hierarchy of product information necessary. The resulting design is consistent with the existing identity, attractive to the consumer, highly identifiable, AND very photogenic for online marketing purposes.
BATHING RANGE FOR SKIN WARRIORS
The initial bathing range consists of four products; a calming moisturising cream (available in 200ml and 100ml sizes), a bathing oil, bathing salts and a face & body wash, all delicately fragranced and all formulated to be as kind and gentle as possible to eczema-prone skin.
The colour bands (consisting of a bright ‘pop’ colour and matching pastel tone) contain the various benefits and details of the key ingredients of each product and provide areas where motivational statements from the brand owner are featured.
ONLY THE BEST FOR THOSE WITH TROUBLED SKIN
The brand already had a metallic gold effect as part of its online identity and so the opportunity for it to appear as an actual shiny metallic foil across all of the new eczema skincare packaging was one not to be missed.
The shiny gold foil appears as part of the stacked ‘The Beauty of Eczema’ logo and as a slim ‘tear’ directly below the product title, running the full width of the product. The coloured and metallic foil bands run around each label and carton and be orientated to create a continuous graphic.
THE LITTLE DETAILS
The tops of the product cartons feature an embossed gold foil emblem – typical of higher end skincare products, again adding to the quality direction of the brand and adding an eye-catching element for the browsing customer.
Further details include a flood of the vivid pink colour with a pattern of hearts to the interior of the eczema skincare packaging cartons. A confidence-building message to the ‘warrior’ (a term the brand uses to unite and bond those troubled/battling with problem skin) is revealed upon opening the carton.
