PROJECT: Based on our work for mens grooming brand The Refinery and celebrity facialist Kirsty McLeod, Maria Hatzistefanis appointed Paul Cartwright Branding at the end of 2005 to help refresh the existing brand identity and create the new premium skincare packaging graphics for Rodial Skincare.
IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT
This initially involved updating the brand’s existing colouration (which was based around the products’ key ingredient of pomegranate), looking at the on-pack logo positioning, use of text and overall layout of this foundling celebrity skincare brand.
Over the span of five years and with our help the identity has evolved into the stylish black, white and silver look that forms the basis of the brand we know today.
All of the new products feature white components with reflective silver caps, silver metallic foiled details and black product information text. Tube and jar-based products with predominantly silver finishes feature white text and logo.
PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL DESIGN
Over this time we have designed and created all product primary and secondary packaging artworks (screenprinted tubes and jars and printed cartons) as well all of the promotional materials for the brand.
SUPPLEMENT PRODUCT SUB-RANGES
During this time the brand developed a capsule range of SPF 15 tanning lotion and tan-enhancing supplement ‘sticks’ – all premium skincare packaging graphics designed and developed by us.
A sub-range of dietary supplements under the title of ‘Crash Diet’ were also created, featuring carton and sachet stick graphics consistent with those of the existing ‘Skinny Beach’ range.
SELF-TANNING PRODUCTS
A specific tanning range called ‘Brazilian Tan’ was developed featuring an updated version of the existing product graphic style to create greater focus on the product name and a point of difference to the core range. The individual pump products featured a brown metallic base colour and capitalised, pastel-coloured titling.
FROM THE CLIENT:
I have known Paul for more than 5 years as the main designer for both our brands (Rodial and NIP+FAB). Paul is very creative and can adjust to different styles and briefs and present artwork that is creative and original. I am delighted to recommend him.

Another design project with a similar minimal aesthetic is our work for Izumi. Details of the project are here.
Skincare and beauty go hand in hand and we have worked on the identity for a chain of high street clinics offering medical aesthetics services and procedures.
