PROJECT: Updated fragranced candle packaging graphics for Urban Olfactory 2020! Following on from the successful minimal, black and white style of the previous candle packaging designed by us back in 2015, we’re pleased to announce our involvement in the development of the brand’s new look.
Working with our long-standing client we have created the refreshed identity for Urban Olfactory. The packaging graphics retain their black and white confidence with updated, centralised ‘Scandi’ style typography. Both product types now feature rectangular self-adhesive labels to the front face.
The brand maintains its use of steel components; ‘paint pot’-type cans for the fragranced candle tins and steel screw-top reed bottle for the diffuser oil bottles, reinforcing the industrial feel.
With a change of packaging format from the previous corrugated construction to a folding boxboard carton, the new crisp white cartons have a bold repeat pattern made up of the brand name initials ‘UO’.
The boldness of the background pattern allows for the rectangular label detail from the candle tins and scented reed diffuser oil bottles to be reproduced as part of the print process.
Two versions of the graphics have been created and a window-carton option has also been developed to show the product more directly.
The new style products are available from the brand’s website > Urban Apothecary London and a collection at Next Retail.
CANDLE PACKAGING GRAPHICS PROJECT 2015
Brand new fragranced candle packaging graphics project from us for premium scented candle brand, Urban Olfactory with a modern, industrial feel.
Modern black and white typography and a subtle gloss varnish pattern feature on the wrap labelling of the industrial candle tin and outer packaging – made from laminated corrugated card.
The gloss varnish pattern is made up of random year numbers, the concept being that each candle fragrance has a specific ‘memory year’ dedicated to it, the fragrance evoking a particular memory, place or event from the brand creator’s life.
The laminated board ‘block’ acts as protective packaging for the candle tin held within and also as an on-shelf frame.
The candles and fragranced room diffusers are available at Boots, John Lewis, Selfridges and online.
FROM THE CLIENT:
We have worked with Paul for nearly ten years and in that time we have received great design and service from him on our varying projects across three brands (Urban Apothecary, Urban Olfactory and Palette London). It has been a real pleasure to work with Paul as he understands the brief and delivers exceptional results. We see Paul as an extension of our business rather than an external supplier and look forward to continuously working with him.
TAJINDER BANWAIT | FOUNDER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR
We also maintain and develop all of the the packaging graphics for Urban Olfactory’s sister brand, Urban Apothecary London and have written about it and our packaging artwork creation service in general here.
